Best Tips to Stay Active While Managing Incontinence

April 24, 2014 2 min read

Urinary incontinence can be a nuisance for people who lead busy lives. From work meetings to children’s sports games, life can get hectic, leaving you to constantly change your incontinence products on the go. In order to make this process easier, incorporate these tips into your daily routine:

  • Always have back up. Wherever you frequent, there should be a constant supply of incontinence products. This means stashing your pads and briefs in your glove compartment, desk drawer at work, gym bag, purse, briefcase and wherever else you can use to make sure you will be protected at all times. Don’t forget to keep extra trash bags on hand for discreet disposal.
  • Make time for the toilet. Did you know that you can actually retrain your bladder to go on your command instead of on its own? Bladder retraining requires you to use the bathroom on a set schedule and gradually increasing the interval as you regain bladder control.
  • Work on your kegel exercises. Your days may be filled with a constant flow of business calls, workshops or playdates, but that doesn’t mean you can’t make time to work those kegel muscles. You can do your exercises while sitting in traffic, during your lunch break, during long meetings, while waiting in line at the grocery store or sitting at the doctor’s office. The great thing about kegels is that it can be done anywhere and no one will even notice.
  • Carry a water bottle. Drinking water helps flush out your system and keeps your bladder healthy. Water doesn’t irritate the bladder, unlike soda, coffee and tea.

Managing urinary incontinence on the go can be tricky, but with these simple tips, you should be able to maintain an active life and continue doing the things you love with confidence.
